I am Matt, sole artisan and founder of Maison de Kalidad. Every strap, wallet and accessory is handcrafted by me, one piece at a time.
2018
A broken watch strap
In 2018, while working a corporate job, the leather strap on my watch gave way — and instead of replacing it, I decided to make one myself. That curiosity became an obsession.
With only ₱1,000 for basic tools, I taught myself the craft through tutorials, forums and countless hours of practice, eventually sourcing quality hides in Marikina.
2022
Returning to where it began
In 2022, a respiratory sensitivity caused by prolonged exposure to workshop dust led me to reconsider my direction and return to where it all began: creating exceptional leather goods by hand.
I wanted a dedicated identity focused entirely on craftsmanship, premium materials and timeless design — and so Maison de Kalidad was born.
The name
Maison
French for “house”.
de kalidad
A Filipino expression meaning “of quality”.
Together, a House of Quality.
The leather
Made for decades, not seasons
I carefully source premium leathers from some of the world’s most respected tanneries — particularly Leather Working Group (LWG)-certified houses in Italy, chosen for their responsible and sustainable production.
For me, sustainability begins with knowing where the leather comes from, and choosing materials made to last for decades rather than seasons. Every piece is still made with the same dedication that began with a broken watch strap years ago.
